Although a test @80kbps would be interesting, testintg at @96kbps is more useful. So my votes are:
- Opus 1.1 @96kbps VBR
- Apple AAC-LC @96kbps TVBR
- FhG AAC-LC @96kbps VBR

SandDisk Clip+ Audio problems

Are there any other players that support ogg that are economical, or are there rockbox builds that would fix the problem?

Are you using rockbox or the sandisk firmware? Both firmwares use the same decoder, however the rockbox one is more up to date and heavily patched, so its generally a lot more compatible.

That said, putting things like large album art in vorbis will break playback on most portable devices.

Assuming the BR has no encryption I believe you can use DVD Audio Extractor. It doesn't seem to mention it in features but it says:

QUOTE
7.0.0 (2012-08-15)

DVD Audio Extractor now supports Blu-ray discs.
The CD Image and Cuesheet format can now be used to create DTS-CD image.
Supports decoding audio files that is demuxed from Blu-ray and DVD files, like dts, ac3, mlp, thd, etc.
Other minor enhancements.

[qaac] release 2.29 (refalac 1.29)

* Fixed regression on 2.28: Tags were not properly copied when --concat was specified on cuesheet input.
* Fixed not to exit with failure requesting output filename when --concat was specified with --peak or --play (in which case "output filename" is nonsense).
* Some minor improvement and code refactoring.

I think OP wants to measure sound pressure levels, or loudness, in an environments like forrest, and asks for devices which can help him acomplish that task; but devices doesn't need to be from renomed manufacturers.

Right, that's what I assumed, too, and pretty much any normal SPL meter should be OK for that.

I wasn't sure since you were asking the developer of DBPA/AR. Gregory Chudov is the current developer of CUETools and korth is our de facto resident expert.

Hardware conflicts can cause clicking issues and it's well known issue that not all creative cards likes other audio hardware present. WiFi controller can be pain in the a**. IRQ sharing can normally be checked throug Device manager and system information tool shows possible conflicts.

Here's an example of bad situation:

Aliasing in slow roll off filters

QUOTE (KMD @ Dec 13 2013, 16:29) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The question posed by the OP is why images wold occur in the transition band of a slow roll off filter in a DAC system that uses oversampling.

The impulse response is determined by the frequency response of all the filters in the system, both analog and digital, not just the analog. More oversampling means more of the work is shifted to the digital filter. The same tradeoffs between impulse and frequency still apply no matter how the filter is implemented though, they are fundamental.

It is because of this that applying the gain before the lossy encoding is able to reduce the required bitrate, while maintaining the same audible quality.

Is this in theory or is it supported by listening tests?

On the other hand, I've had new CDs that were just defective. I returned them for warranty. Might be the problem in your case too.
