I'm using Cyanogenmod 10 on my SGS Android phone, and it has a builtin DSP Manager, which offers Dynamic Range Compression, which is very nice to have for listening in noisy environments. It also has a built-in EQ. This means you can have all these features independently of the audio player you use. Maybe there is a standalone version or similar app on the Play Store.
That looks really nice. The thing is, I don't want to root my phone just yet, as it's still in warranty time (and will be for about a year, I bought it in March). And my device is as of now not supported, but I guess it'll be eventually.
I also looked for DRC, dynamic range, compressor, on the Play Store, but nothing came up. Only some design apps and some weird not-sure-they're-safe things...

Unless it's a safety hazard, try some earphones with better isolation as well as better sensitivity. You'll hear more of the music, and won't have to turn the volume up so loud - saving your ears, and maybe your phone's battery, and giving you more options for EQ/volume control.
Yeah that's on my to do list. I could try with my old JVC HAS160 I use mostly for listening at home, those are quite loud. I'm using this ones which are quite cheap and had some nice reviews there and on Head-fi as well. I didn't try them before buying though...

I own and recommend the Bose QuietComfort 15 noise cancelling headphones for that, as well as the Shure SE425 IEMs (sensitive IEMs in general) with whatever tips give you the best fit.
Of note is that the QC15s, being actively "amped", are completely immune to high output impedance.

Ok thank you for those suggestions. I will see if they're available in my location and give them a try if I can (not an easy task, I'm unaware of any stores in my area that let you do that...
And of course, thank you all for your help!

Edit: These and these are all the rage here. I gave a listen to the ZX100 a friend has and found them ok for the price, I prefer the sound of my JVC though. I've read the ZX300 are a bit better. Should I look into both of them as well? They are easy to find here and have a price more according to what I can spend... Any good alternatives for the price? Thanks!
